“Vincent Peel, his family and the crew of the steamer “Everett” was
destroyed in a violent April storm on the
The two men who where well known Steamboat Captains on the
Mississippi River for many years. They lived in Burlington, Iowa in
the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Captain Thomas Peel’s daughter
Luella Peel was the Principle of Old Coarse Elementary School in
Burlington, Iowa for many years. The other captain was Vincent Peel
whose death in 1889 was a well documented.

where killed when his steamboat the “Everett” was capsized by a

Fairview School 1929,that was on Hwy. 99 in Benton Twp., Sec. 26, north of Burlington. The teacher Miss Florence Hussel. The names of the children include Hosteens, Schmeisers, Oetkens, Franks, Youngmans, Laues, Millers, Woodruffs, Moyers, and Deen. Silas Deen is the second boy from the right of the teacher.
